When playing Texas Holdem it is advisable to know the odds of improving your game. In poker, the cards that improve your game are called “Outs”. We suggest you give you the calculation method and the resulting probability for each scenario.
How to calculate the cards that improve your game in Texas Hold’em
Outs are improving cards. Each time the flop comes out you will have the opportunity to improve your game depending on the cards dealt. Depending on your hand several possibilities are available to you, here are some examples of improvement.
- Straight Flush Draw: 15 Outs
- Your hand: {10-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
- Flop:{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}
- Straight draw + flush = 15 outs, i.e. all hearts (9) plus all cards making a straight (8) minus cards with hearts already counted (2), i.e. 9 + 6 = 15 Outs.
- Straight Draw: 8 Outs
- Your hand: {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
- The Flop: {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
In both of these cases, we prefer not to consider overcards as outs:
A jack in the first case (straight flush draw) would give you a pair, also an 8 in the second case (straight draw). However, if your opponent already has a pair of queens {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, these would not be winning Outs. You are free to take them into account, however, if you feel from your reading that they constitute an improvement but especially that they can win on the hand held by your opponent. The table at the bottom of the page will give you the probability for a given number of Outs.
- Three of a kind on the flop: 10 outs
- Your hand {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}
- The Flop:{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
All domino terbaik doublers give you a full house, if the Turn is any card you will have to add it as an out if it doubles. The 5 gives you a square. Three (3) plus one (5) plus three (10) = 7 turn flop outs. If the Turn is a different card from the previous ones: example a Jack, three jacks are to be added to the Outs. This is the total forming 10 outs.
- Flush Draw: 9 outs
- Your hand: {4-Hearts} {9-Hearts}
- The Flop: {6-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
- Two pairs: 8 outs
- Your hand :{a-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}
- The Flop: {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Belly Draw 4 Outs
- The gut draw called a straight draw in poker parlance.
- Your hand: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
- The flop {6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades}
To better understand your probability of improvement, we have produced a summary table. It takes both the number of Outs and the corresponding probability.

Probability calculation based on outs
- The pack contains 52 cards. On the flop you know the 3 community cards and 2 from your hand. You have 8 outs, just proceed as follows: 8 / (52-5) = 8/47 = 17%.
- The Turn is coming, you have 4 public cards on the Board and 2 private cards, those in your hand, i.e. 8 / (52-6) = 8/46 = 17.4%
- If you had held an opponent on the mat, for the same number of outs (8), you have a probability of the two cards to come according to the calculation below.
- The total of the two probabilities is not added, it is obtained according to the following formula.
